Twist style

Took another shot a twists connected to the head! Kinda loving it!

Bubble band style

I've seen this style all over the internet recently and decided to give it a try. I wish I would have done black bands but it took about an hour so I'll have to remember for next time instead of redoing it tonight. I think I'm going to try putting it up in a bun later on too for something different. But she likes it!

Product review: Soultanicals slip n slide knot proof hair glide

This was a bit pricey for the size, $16 if I remember correctly. BUT after first use I have to say it's well worth the money! The smell is amazing, my daughter said it's like strawberry yogurt, I think it's a mix between vanilla and fruit loops lol....as soon as I squeezed some in my hand I could tell it was going to be awesome! It's like pure silk! Omg! I applied to her freshly washed hair and it glided thru better than anything I've ever used! Her hair started drying while I did twists and this slid thru the tangles her hair was getting. I've noticed her has mixed porosity levels so it seems to have alot of white still where it didn't absorb into. But the areas her hair absorbs product better just soaked right up! I'm hoping it will clear in the white areas but if not I know to use less next time...I used reagan sanai soufflé over this product but I'm really tempted to try one of soultanicals hair butters since I'm loving this "hair glide". I highly recommend this product tho, especially for anyone who deals with lots of tangles! 5 stars hands down!

Twists with new Reagan Sanai product!

Finally got around to doing smaller twists to snip her uneven ends...I need her hair to grow back asap lol I cannot stand how uneven the lengths are! Looking at the back of her head the left side is shorter, and looking from the front the left side is shorter! So opposite sides are shorter...anywho...I also used my fave Reagan Sanai products to do her twists and tried the new shea butter with Jamaican castor oil! LOVE! This is probably my new favorite from the line! It's so silky and smooth, just glides thru her hair like butter and soaks right in 😍

Product review: Mielle organics

Sooo I finally found my staple products but ended up taking a stroll down the product aisle at sallys and found these intriguing items lol....I used the hair milk on my son's freshly washed hair (pictured below once dry). Smells nice, absorbed well into his hair, no complaints. The next morning he had major bed head so I used the leave in conditioner to freshen his curls. This had an odd plastic type scent but it wasn't horrible. I liked how it had a narrow spray and didn't get all over everything around you and you didn't have to use much to wet a section. It also wasn't like my favorite leave in "curls" detangler which has one tiny stream and not a spray at all tho. So a nice in between spray...anywho, it had a quite watery consistency but seemed to work fine...2 days later and his hair feels good and looks good! So 5 stars for use on his head!....for my daughter I used all 3, starting with the leave it, then hair milk, topped with the oil. The leave in didn't help detangle much, but I used on freshly washed hair so it didn't really matter. I applied the hair milk which absorbed nicely into her hair and the oil seemed to perfect everything! I'll have an update in a couple days for her completed review. (It's wet in braids for now)...I also bought the Co wash. I like it but it's nothing special. It claims to detangle but it did none of that for my son so I didn't even try on my daughter...all the products I bought ran about $12 each.

Our curly/Deva cut experience

Well, after almost 7 years of only tiny trims, baby girl finally got her first haircut! Our stylist was great! The process was amazing! She cut her hair dry, one curl at a time. Her hair was so long in the front and short in the back. She shaped it all to even it out. Looked amazing once she finished! ...there's only one slight problem with her hair curly/Deva cut. She NEVER wears her hair down. As I said, her hair looked amazing once finished. But back to every day life of protective styles, her hair is so uneven! I snipped off her ends of twists and braids a few times already to try to slowly even her hair back out when stretched/styled. I highly recommend a curly/Deva cut for naturals who wear their hair down more than not. Next time we go in for a cut I want an even amount taken off all around, and stretched out while cutting...in the end it was a much needed cut. Her hair is so much easier to detangle during bath time and while applying products.

*the first photo is her hair wet with product, damp showing length when stretched, and completely dry in the morning **the second is her hair before damp and then her finished cut!*

Favorite product combo

I've still been on the hunt for my go to products on her hair and I have finally figured it out! The curls detangling spray has been a fave for about 3 years now, best stuff ever! The shea moisture extra moisture detangler I discovered a few months ago and is still working great....I recently got on board with reagan sanai products and love them but wasn't loving them alone. I tried their spray, both butters (shea and mango) and also their gel. None of it worked well with her hair, just left it a shrunken sticky mess if not styled. I used these 3 products pictured over the weekend and put twists all over her head. This morning I took the twists apart for a twist out and her hair was sooooo soft and moisturized! Omg! Of course the humidity got the best of her hair on her field trip (as pictured) lol but I'm loving it still! 3 AMAZING products right here for my curly girl! 😊

Layered style comparison

It's always fun to look at old pictures to see how much her hair has grown since I always think it isn't! I clearly figured out how to make her braids even too and fit the same amount of beads on each braid 🖒

Layered braids

Take 2 at a style I did a few years ago. Length comparison pics in my next post!

Box braid style

2.5 weeks of braids and still looking pretty good! 43 braids took 3 hours! Didn't use a comb to part cuz that would have been a whole extra hour added lbvs... She loves her braids in braids so I decided to do 2 pigtail braids ☺

Flat twists

Finally worked up some patience to learn something new lol not the best but it works for my first try!

Review: carols daughter combing creme

This is amazing! I used on my daughter's hair after washing and this product has the most slip I've experienced with a leave in cream! So much slip that when I got to the ends of putting her braids in that I couldn't even keep grasp of her hair. Definitely worth the money, which was originally $10 but I got it on sale for about $8. The smell is pretty light but smells so good, like warm vanilla. A little went a long way. I'm so excited I found this product and it's definitely going to be a staple product for us! 5 stars!

Review: Jāsön conditioner

I bought this conditioner in the natural/organic at my local grocery store. It was $8-$9. It has the best slip I have ever experienced for myself and my daughter! It's like putting butter and grease on our hair lol its amazing! The scent is kinda minty, but not strong, smells good. Not sure what else to say about it, but 5 stars for sure!

Cantu conditioning detangler part 2

I just used this on my daughter tonight and it worked well. I took her hair down from braided pig tails and proceeded to detangle in sections. Her hair required alot of detangler! My fingers got super tired after about 10 pumps. It had decent slip for her hair, but I'm not sure how well it would have worked if I detangled her hair had it not been styled prior. When I used brand new on my son I only used about 10% of the bottle. Tonight on my daughter I used 80%! So this detangler required much more than the curls brand we usually use. If I use again on her I'll have to switch to a trigger style spray bottle instead of how it comes. I'd give it 4 stars only cuz my hand got tired and how much we had to use.

Review: Cantu conditioning detangler for kids

Just tried this on my son's dry hair and it works great! Not too strong of smell but light and fresh. I detangled in sections then applied a hair milk after. It had enough slip for his hair, enough for him to not fight me lol he sat still the whole time watching his movie! It's about  $3 if I remember correctly, so not bad at all. A little certainly went a long way for him so that's always a plus too! The ultimate test will be on my daughter's hair, but I don't do much detangling these days on her hair outside from washing it. I have no complaints about this product, nice n cheap and works well, highly recommend!

Simple band style

Just a last minute style I decided to do before wash day. I took her twists out since they were super messy, applied product and did some banding with a braid at the end. She loves it! (Excuse the messy part, I didn't use a comb, just took the twists out and made it as even as I could)

Review: Camille Rose shampoo and conditioner

I'll start with the sweet ginger cleansing rinse first. I used this on the whole household! It has a sweet smell to it, not my favorite, but not bad. This product felt so silky on my kids hair and my own! It distributed easily and had nice lather. All our hair felt so clean after using! Zero complaints!...next is the Moroccan pear conditioning custard. I first used on my son's hair. I distributed thru his hair evenly and let sit for about 5 minutes before detangling. I swear it ate thru his tangled mess! He always cries and fights me when I detangle his hair, but not this time! I love this on him! For my daughter it's a different story tho. It had about zero slip on my daughter's hair so I had to use our fave herbal essence hello hydration conditioner. After I detangled with that conditioner I then put the camille rose conditioner in her hair and let it sit about 5 minutes. Her hair was so soft after rinsing! The smell was fine, nothing special, a bit fruity but fresh. My only complaints would be the slip, the difficulty of squeezing the bottle, and the cost for how quickly we go thru conditioner. I will most likely buy the shampoo/cleansing rinse again, but probably not the conditioner. Although I would recommend it for shorter hair with loser and silkier curls (as my son has). 5 stars for the shampoo and 3 for the conditioner!

Review: Camille Rose almond jai twisting butter

I have also used this product on both my kids hair and had good results with each. For my son I used after his bath with some argan oil and found it a bit too heavy for his hair. It moisturized and defined his curls really good but seemed a bit greasy to me. For my daughter I used for her twists and it worked well. Kept her hair moisturized and soft. Her hair does better with hair milks and lotions, but this product wasn't bad. It has a good cake frosting scent that I love! I think it's a good product but I'm undecided about purchasing again. A little goes a long way so I have some time for it to change my mind a bit lol. No complaints just not one of my faves at the moment.

Review: Camille Rose fresh curl

Pretty sure I just found my new gold in a bottle product! This stuff is amazing on both my kids hair! I used after shampooing and conditioning with camille rose products. For my son I ran it thru his hair and let air dry. His curls were so tight and slightly weighed down. Usually his hair turns into a fro once dried, but with this his curls were defined and springy all day! Even after rolling around and some time in the carseat. For my daughter I sectioned her hair for twists using this product. It slid thru her hair so nice and easy! Seemed to soften her hair as soon as it absorbed! Literally the best purchase I've made in a while! It has a fresh scent and slightly like frosting. A little goes a long way and I love the natural ingredients. I will definitely be keeping this product on deck for a while! 5 stars for sure, give it a try!

Review: Reagan Sanai

I have seen these products "advertised" on a few Facebook groups I'm in and they always caught my eye but I was tired of buying products online all the time. Well I'm glad I caved and gave it a shot! I decided to purchase the moisturizing aloe hair mist and the mango butter soufflé. I started on freshly washed hair and applied the hair mist first (as directed). The smell is amazing to me! It's a light lemony citrus scent. It didn't scream moisture to me when I sprayed on her damp hair, but I proceeded. I followed with the soufflé, which has a weird but good scent to me. I'm not sure how to explain it, maybe a stronger version of the hair mist...anyways, it didn't look whipped to me as stated, it seemed hard. But it melted quickly into an oil once rubbed (as pictured). This also didn't seem moisturizing and has no slip. I continued anyway and twisted her whole head. Once finished I must say I love the outcome! Her hair is super soft and shiny! I am a bit sad I didn't buy the gel to put on after the soufflé, but that will probably be a later purchase when I get a bigger jar of soufflé....I had to test different amounts of the soufflé in each section till I found the right amount. The areas that had a bit too much got hard. I'm guessing from the coconut oil in the product. It all absorbed well tho and I can't wait to see how the moisture lasts once I take her hair down from her bun style. I plan on using the mist as a daily moisture spray as well...I have to say, so far this is a great product and I can't wait to try it out on my son! I love that it's all natural ingredients that I can read and know exactly what they are! I'm only going to give it 4 stars tho since I really do like products with slip, but other than that I have zero complaints and would highly recommend ☺

Twist bun

Twists on little man

So for fun the other night I decided to put twists in my son's hair to do a little overnight moisture lock...I usually had a hard time believing people when they say their curly haired child couldn't keep twists in....welllll, I apologize for my thoughts lol I feel the struggle now. I'm not planning on ever styling my son's hair in twists, but now I know that looser silky curls do have a hard time keeping twists. Lesson learned!

Update on shea moisture extra moisture detangler

So I finally tried on my daughter's a few days ago putting braids in. Her hair is still moisturized with no spray added! (I usually use a moisture spray every other night on her hair) Her ends aren't even that dry! Her hair is super shiny and moisturized! LOVE this product! I used along with my favorite Argan oil and it's a perfect combination. I will definitely be buying this again! It works great on both my kids hair and a little seems to go a long way so far 😄 I love that it has a light scent and smoothed thru her hair easily as well. I recommend everyone to try this product (if I didn't recommend in my last review already lol)

Review: Baby Bee multipurpose ointment

This product is great! Not too expensive and lasts a while. I use this on both my kids after their baths/before bed and it keeps their skin so soft! It's gentle enough to use on their eczema and dry skin. My daughter gets really bad eczema on the back of her thighs and extremely dry hands that are red and crack. This product doesn't sting her sore skin at all! She uses it on her hands overnight and in the morning they are very close to healed. For both my kids it absorbs overnight and leaves their skin soft and moisturized in the morning. When they don't have irritated skin I'll mix it with some lotion just so it spreads a bit easier and lasts longer. It can seem quite thick to spread alone if you don't use alot....I wish I found this product when my daughter was a baby or when my son was younger, I just found it a couple months ago. I love it and clearly need to buy more lol. I give it 5 stars and recommend this to people of all ages and skin types.

Review: Honest Company

Ok so it's not a hair product review, but I absolutely love these products! I have personally bought/tried the diaper rash cream, diaper area spray, body oil and wipes. The rash cream is amazing! I will never buy any other brand, it works so well. My son is 2 and rarely gets diaper rash, but when he does its pretty bad and this cream takes care of it over night! The spray works well for those extra stinky diapers or a dried on mess. I just spray a couple shots of this and it makes for easy clean up and a fresh bottom! The wipes I just recently tried since I had a coupon on cartwheel (the price was a bit high for my usual purchase). One of my best wipe purchases ever! Super thick, your fingers won't poke thru or feel like any mess will absorb thru onto you. Very gentle for my son's extra sensitive skin (he breaks out easily and gets bad eczema). The only draw back is the package opening, the flip part has ripped twice on me, so I have to not fold it back as far and it's fine...I just bought the oil today since the store didn't have our original cream (next review!). I used one pump of baby lotion and 3 pumps of oil...this is that stuff!! It mixed well with the lotion and ran so smooth on my son's skin, and now it's been about 20 mins since I put it on him and it's absorbed well and his skin is so soft! This may replace our other cream since it's absorbs quickly. Or it may be our morning routine and our other cream can stay our night/after shower routine...in the past I have bought the conditioner and it worked well, but it's just a bit too expensive and not enough in a bottle to be worth the continual purchase with how much we use in one wash....I have used the diapers on children other than my own (I work at a daycare). They work well but I would never personally buy them since I have other brands I prefer that work better. The diapers are cute but feel a bit hard for my liking...the products in the picture that I have now I give FIVE stars! They are pricey but we'll worth the money!

Review: Camille Rose moisture milk

I have used this on both my son and daughter's hair....I have to start with the scent, it smells like vanilla frosting/cake heaven! So that sold me on buying it in the first place lol...it's used this on my son after detangling with curls leave in detangler and his curls were like bath fresh all day! Usually his hair fro's out once his hair dries, but this kept his curls tight and slightly wet looking all day (not sure if that had to do with the detangler as well tho)...for my daughter I have only used it on her ends nightly after spraying with carols daughter black vanilla leave in conditioner. I spray her hair, apply the moisture milk and then twist loose ends. Her ends were so soft once dried all thru the day! After her next wash I'm going to try on her whole head. So far it works great as I've tried already...I would definitely recommend giving this product a try for any hair type!

Review: As I am double butter cream

I used this when banding my daughter's hair 4 nights ago along with Argan oil...I've styled a couple times since and again tonight. Her hair is still moisturized! I had to moisturize her ends 2 other nights cuz they get so dry, but that's life lol...I used to buy "bee mine" products, and specifically loved the luscious moisture cream, and I have to say this compares quite well to it. It's thick but absorbs into her hair, where most thick creams sit on top of her hair. The smell is good, kind of a sweet scent. The price is outrageous to me, I got the 8oz for $12-$15 if I remember correctly. But I'll probably end up buying the larger jar for over $20 since it works so well with her hair and a little seems to go a long way. I have not tried this on my son yet since his hair does well with just a leave in conditioner...so for use on my daughter's hair I'll have to give this product 2 thumbs up 👍👍 it's great! If you're looking for a product to lock in moisture, specifically on low porosity type 4 hair, I'd recommend giving this a try!

Review: shea moisture Co wash and detangler

So as much as I hate shea moiture, I keep trying their products...I have finally came across a win! I found these 2 products at walgreens for about $10 each (but if you have the walgreens card you can get them on sale for buy one get one half off)...I have yet to try the Co wash on my daughter cuz she will probably use it all in one wash. I haven't tried the detangler on her yet either, but I'm hoping to next time I wash her hair....so this review will be based on how it worked for my son's hair. First the Co wash smells amazing! It also has tons of slip which helps with his tangles and his tender head. I rubbed it thru his hair, let it sit about 5 mins or so while he plays and then detangled and rinsed. His hair was super soft once rinsed out. His hair is always soft since his curls are very silky, but it was even more soft using this. After his bath I put the detangler in, which also smells amazing! I have to note that I did try it on his hair dry the first time and it was so thick and sticky and did zero detangling, it was just a mess. So I then washed his hair and did as the bottle says and applied after washing. Much better! His curls were poppin all day and the next! Usually once he sleeps on his head his curls are a hot mess, but not with this detangler in. I love these for him and highly recommend them (especially if you or your little one have type 3 hair, my best guess is 3b for him)...I hope the detangler works as great on my daughter as it does my son! It would be nice to have the same products instead of 20 different things for each kid lol...*excuse the empty bottoms, I keep them upside down so it's easier to come out*

February 27, 2016

Banded 2016

The last time I posted about banding was 2.5 years ago and when her hair was banded it was only to her ears!...I wasn't sure what to do to her hair tonight so I'm starting with this. I also finally caved on buying As I am double butter cream. I found it in a 8oz jar for about $12 if I recall correctly (didn't wanna buy the big jar for double the price quite yet). So a review on that should be coming soon as well!

February 16, 2016

New braids!

Wanted to try something new but not too time consuming...LOVE this on my daughter! Although next time I'm going to detangle, moisturize and stretch over night. I did it on freshly washed hair and doing the big braids her hair kept tangling and to do these kinds of braids my hands only work on top and it's hard to do once I get to the middle/back of her head. Her hair is super thick so it made it harder for me to keep close to her head, my hands working right lol and keep the hair I didn't need out the way. But she loves it and I learned what I needed for next time!

Review: carols daughter, black vanilla

I bought a trial size leave in conditioner spray and love it! I will have to buy the full size next. The scent is like a warm vanilla smell and it's great! It seems to moisturize her hair well too. The hair smoothie I used last night as a deep conditioner after taking her 3 week old box braids out. This is that stuff! Had good slip and wasn't too thick, a little seemed to go a long way (which is good since it was quite expensive for the size). The smell is also a warm vanilla scent too. I see both these being future purchases! I'm not a huge fan of carols daughter products, but this collection is doing well for us! I plan to purchase the other products from the black vanilla line next...☆☆☆☆ for the 2 of these, the 5th star was based on price so I couldn't give it that

Review: as I am, so much moisture

I read amazing reviews and thought it would be great for my daughter! I don't have a picture due to I hated the bottle and transferred it into a spray bottle instead. It is not a cream at all, it's liquid and was very hard for me to apply to her hair. It had no slip at all and didn't seen to moisturize at all...i am saving it for the summer months tho since I think the lack of moisture retention is due to the ingredients that are supposed to draw in moisture (can't remember what it's called). I think this product is doing the opposite in these dry winter months and taking the moisture from her hair and putting it into the air...I'll have an update in a few more months!...I won't say I dislike this product yet, and the smell is good, so I hope I like it in the summer

Review: True products

I recently discover a new natural product line and read reviews abiut it. Seemed great so I figured I'd try a few. The products are all around $10 if I remember correctly...the butter isn't really that thick at all, it easily fell off my fingers when I scooped some up. It also doesn't have much slip either. The styling cream was pretty thin, but not liquidy, and didn't have much slip to go thru my daughter's hair either. The spray I used to moisturize her styles and was ok I guess. I'm not overly impressed at any of these products except for the smell. The scent is very extreme and lasts dayssss! It's fruity and smells amazing to me tho, so I like that...I also tried these on my son and wasn't all that impressed how they worked on him either. I'd give them ☆☆☆ and probably won't purchase again.

Review: carols daughter

I've been trying to find a thicker product for my daughter's hair this winter and read decent reviews about the restorative cream. First, the smell is terrible. Second, it doesn't smooth well thru her hair. Third, didn't seem to moisturize well. Overall, not a huge fan but I'll probably finish it since it was a bit pricey....the liquid pommade was better. The smell is pretty good, nothing special, and I loved the shine it added! Not too set on buying either again, but I'll for sure use the pommade up. The restorative cream left her hair white till dry, so if you see alot of white while styling don't worry too much, it will go away.

Review: as I am, born curly

I recently discovered As I am has a children's hair care line now at sally beauty, so of course my product junkie self had to check it out! Possibly the greatest decision ever lol this leave in conditioner is amazing for both my kids. The slip is on point and keeps their hair moisturized very well...the scent is awful, omg, but I've had to look past that since it works so well! I put some oil with a better smell on top of it to try drowning out the bad smell. I am going to try the rest of the kids line as soon as I run out of the massive stash I already have of products...☆☆☆☆☆ hands down tho, this is amazing!

Review: original sprout

(This review is on my sons hair) My friend gave me a couple samples from original sprout, the detangler spray and oil...LOVE! The detangler works well but the smell isn't great, it's like a bad fragrance free scent (my daughter likes it tho). The oil smells amazing and makes my son's hair super soft! I also tried the oil on my daughter's hair and it was amazing for her as well. I will be trying the curl cream next and am hoping it's as great as these 2 products I've already tried...the detangler gets ☆☆☆☆ due to the bad smell for me, but the oil gets ☆☆☆☆☆! This seems to be a great product line for all hair types! (My friend uses this on her straight hair as well)

Review: shea moisture low porosity

I recently purchased the low porosity shampoo and conditioner from shea moisture. It left my daughter's hair pretty soft and the conditioner seemed to absorb more than our regular brand. The 2 things I didn't like were the lack of slip with the conditioner and the "mintiness". I wash her hair in the tub and the lack of slip made the process longer and the mintiness started to bother her by making her cold. Which is pretty accurate because my hands were freezing detangling her hair....I would like to find the leave in conditioner to try as well since the shampoo and conditioner did seem to work well on her. For effectiveness I'll give it ☆☆☆☆, but for overall I'd have to give ☆☆☆. Not positive I'll buy again tho since it took half the bottle of conditioner to get thru her hair and it's a bit pricey.
