Layered braids with beads

So I usually try to avoid layered braids cuz the change in baby girl's hair texture and thickness is crazy that I can't even line the rows up the same if I plan on using beads.

Problem #1:
I have to make the sections in the back/middle of her head much smaller cuz her hair is super thick there. I could just make the other braids work around that section, I know, but other areas of her hair are so soft and thin its hard to work with if the section gets too small.

Problem #2:
That section that has to be smaller still ends up super thick and won't allow beads on easily, so there are 2 rows of braids that only have 4 beads instead of 8. The 2 braids on each side have 8 beads but oh man it wasn't easy lol.

Anywho, this style I found on another blogsite (I cant remember the name of it) but I had to tweak it a bit to work for baby girl's hair since it is much thicker than the other girls hair was. I did 3 layers of braids and added beads to the ends. Seems like a ”sturdy” style that will last a bit :)

Style after banding ”experiment”

I have banded a few times in the past but once I took the bands out the next day her hair wasn't as moisturized as I anticipated it would be. When I banded last night I used different products which left her hair much more moisturized than in the past. So when I took her bands out today I decided I wanted to try styling with adding a leave in conditioner on half her head and then on the other half to just leave as is from banding the night before....when I applied the leave in conditioner to the one side I noticed her hair start to shrink and curl, making it a bit more difficult to style as I wanted (since her hair is still pretty short). The side that had no reapplied product was much easier to work with, although I did have to be more gentle when grabbing sections of hair to ensure no breakage since it was a bit more dry and had a few tangles close to her scalp.

In the end I will choose just to use better products and more of it when banding so that the next day I won't have to add any more.

Banding

Purpose:
To elongate curls without the use of heat.

How to:
I band on freshly washed and detangled hair. I apply an oil on damp hair and put a leave in conditioner on after. I then begin to band the section I am working with. Once that section is done I move to the next and continue till her whole head is finished....in the morning I take the bands out and style.

Throw back Thursday!

This was last year. She had a heart in the middle section. I just love the sweetness and innocence of this picture <3

Braided pigtails

Decided to try a new style tonight that I've been wanting to do for a while now. Hoping it lasts more than a week since it took me forever! Lol....I used curls detangler/moisturizer and blended beauty down and out styles to achieve this style

”Beautiful Textures”

After taking out baby girl's yarn braids I decided to leave her hair out in a pony tail for the day, instead of washing it right away and her getting all sweaty...I have been using beautiful textures leave in conditioner for a few weeks now and wasn't a huge fan since it didn't moisturize her hair hardly at all. I went and bought the moisture butter to see if that would do anything since I have heard great things about the whole product line and didnt want to give up quite yet (also the price is good for testing and not worrying about wasting alot of money, I think these 2 were approx. $7 each)...I worked in sections spraying detangler and finger combing, then applying about a quarter size amount of the leave in condtioner, and lastly applying the moisture butter (about a quarter size again, depending on which section I am working with, since her hair texture and thickness varries thru out her head). Once a section was done with, I braided and moved on to the next section. When her whole head was finished having product applied and braided, I took out all the braids and pulled her hair up into a pony tail. I have to say that the combination of the 2 products is amazing! Her hair is super soft and moisturized. I may have applied a bit too much moisture butter in a few sections because it did get a bit crunchy, but I just fluffed the stiffness out...I couldn't get the best lighting to see her curls, but I hope these help :)

Yarn braids continued...

I kept baby girl's braids in for 1 week, due to paranoia of damaging her hair. While she had them in I sprayed every other day with bee mine juicy sprits. We did run out so I ended up using an oil/water mix the last couple days. I didn't have her wear the braids down except the first day, I thought they were much more cute styled. She loved having them in braided pig tails and a low pony tail (no picture was taken for that style)...I loved her braids and they held up great! When I took the yarn out, her hair was so soft and moisturized! This is definitely a style I'll be doing again, and will also keep in longer since my fear did not end up happening!
